Adrian interviews father of 9 year old AML patient with 10 days to save Nathaniel Nabena

It has been a huge honor to recently get to know a member of our Facebook Blood Cancer Uncensored Facebook communty who is also sharing his story here with us on this website. I have also spent some time doing due dilligence on this amazing story.

Ebisidor Nabena is father to Nathaniel a young boy who was discovered to have the rare and aggressive form of blood cancer called Acute Myeloid Luekemia (AML) during an unrelated visit to the UK. Treatment must be rapid but can be life saving. If this diagnosis had happened in his home country of Nigeria, treatment with chemotherapy and venetoclax followed by a stem cell transplant simply couldnt have happened.

Just 100 children a year are diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia  (AML) a year in the UK.  Imagine the odds that one of them should be a young boy who just happened to be in the country visiting to get a prosthetic eye fitted for a different condition.

Without modern medical treatment of chemotherapy, venetoclax and a stem cell transplant, death would be certain.  This would not have been available in Nigeria where he lived. In London, Great Ormond Street Hospital is one of the top places in the world to deal with this.  Whilst he is not eligible for treatment under the UK’s National Health Service (NHS), doctors at the world-famous hospital have waived their fees, dramatically reducing the cost to save this life.

One of the UK’s most popular national newspapers, The Mirror and its sister publication the Sunday People have been behind this case since February.  Thanks to the generosity of their readers and others the initial chemotherapy has been paid for and was very successful.

But without another £200,000 being raised in the next ten days the window will close on following this treatment up with a stem cell transplant.  He has a match which is itself a miracle.  This treatment may well be curative and allow him to live a normal life.

Ebisidor is a gentle charming man who is doing everything he can for his son to save his life. What father wouldn’t? It was an honour to interview him today and you can watch the interview right here:

Please do your part in saving this boy’s life. Share this story with all your social media channels. Donate and pray for a miracle of life. It would be amazing for this story to end with the positive outcome that many in rich countries have come to hope for. Sometimes by helping an individual we can make the world a kinder place. This is one such time.
