Catastrophic System Failure-Why the Support Group Concept is so Important

This life is so strange. We hopefully live life as healthy individuals at least until age 40 or age 50, but inevitably, these bodies break down. Then, eventually, we get that medical report. You have back pain, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, you should try to shed those extra pounds.

But then sometimes we are handed diagnoses that require more attention: fibromyalgia, diabetes, thyroid problems… now we’re starting to “smoke” a little. Things are starting to go haywire.

We start thinking: Life is just so unfair!

But we cope, we adjust. We attempt to follow our doctors’ orders and advice. And we miraculously survive.

And then we have that one really really bad day. The day we were told we have cancer. I do not believe there is any day that is considered much worse!

We have, as far as it appears, experienced a Catastrophic System Failure!

But we must not let our illnesses define who we are as humans. We are all unique individuals with different personalities and talents.

This forum is for showcasing our diversity, while in the same token, bringing us together under a particular illness. But there is much more to us than cancer.

In fact, how many of you introduce yourself in a social setting like this, “Hi, my name is so-in-so. And I have blood cancer. What do you have?” That is ludicrous! I don’t think anybody does that.

Let us come together and rebuild the brokenness of our lives by discussing the positive. Let us virtually offer hugs and positive encouragement in whatever season of life we are in. Let us be available to each other so that when I am falling down and you lift me up that I would return the favor at some point! We have hobbies, we have experiences to share, we have traveled, we have loved and lived well. Let us begin to “reboot” our system by running the proverbial “anti-virus” program and clearing our cache!

As always, let us know if you need spiritual guidance or just need prayer (embassyofchristbiblechurch@gmail.com). Let’s keep the lines open on the Blood Cancer Uncensored Facebook page and use it for the way it is intended: to be a forum of open communication, information, and understanding.
